How long will the NordicTrack GX 4.7 Recumbent last?

As we explain further in our review, the NordicTrack GX 4.7 Recumbent bike does not have much quality built into it. If you have experience using exercise bikes at a gym and would like a good one for your home, try and save a little more. A good, long-lasting bike is going to cost much more than the GX 4.7. We do like some of the features of this bike, but the build is not one of them. Consequently, we would only recommend the GX 4.7 Recumbent for a light user.

Brief Overview

If a recumbent bike suits your needs, then the NordicTrack GX 4.7 Recumbent may be the bike for you. This model is still a cheap bike which means there are a good bit of setbacks. But, if you are on a budget, then our 2020 Second Place Best Buy Award for the $399 and Under category may be the exercise bike for you.

Overall Quality

To start, we need to clear up a few things. There are so many different bikes on the market each with different drives, braking, and workout motions. When you start looking for an exercise bike, you may be a little overwhelmed. Accordingly, we included a number of different bikes in our Best Buy list that way you can see the best of each price range and type. With that said, recumbent bikes vary from other exercise bikes because they have a seat and (usually) stationary handlebars. These bikes are great for people who’s main goal is physical therapy or circulation improvement. Recumbent bikes are better suited for staying active as opposed to toning and shredding pounds.

With that said, the GX 4.7 Recumbent is a decent starter recumbent bike. We like that NordicTrack included a five-inch LCD screen with 24 built-in programs. We are also pleased to see that the GX 4.7 Recumbent comes with one of the best warranties among our top four bikes in this cheap price range.

The two main features we like, though, are the magnetic resistance and the step-through design. Magnetic resistance usually tends to be quieter, easier to maintain, and smoother to use; which also means that magnetic resistance systems are a little more pricey. NordicTrack managed to include this which is a nice touch. Additionally, we like the step-through design. Believe it or not, not all recumbent bikes have this space to step in when you are getting on the bike. Some require you swing your leg over which could prove dangerous for certain users. We are glad to see the step-through design with the GX 4.7 Recumbent because it makes this bike more accessible for users on a budget.

Unfortunately, though, there are always a few setbacks to every machine. For starters, we always hesitate in general when we review machines in the $399 and Under category because we really don’t like promoting any kind of cheap machine. If you want to see quality and durability, please save some money and get a better bike. With that said, we realize some people are just starting out or maybe want to dip their toes in before they really commit to a home gym. If you are looking to buy a bike on a budget, then the GX 4.7 Recumbent is an okay choice but do not expect too much quality from it. While we like the additional features that NordicTrack included, you have to realize that their budget was very small. In order to throw in all the other bells and whistles, NordicTrack had to sacrifice the GX 4.7 Recumbent’s build a little. Consequently, this recumbent bike does not have as much durability or quality as a more expensive bike or even a bike with less features and more build.

History

We have yet to write a review on the GX 4.7 Recumbent bike. We invite you, though, to check out some of our other NordicTrack reviews in order to get a good sense of their product line and reliability.

Conclusion

In the end, the GX 4.7 Recumbent offers a good amount of features when you consider the price range that it is in. Most inexpensive bikes are pretty horrible to begin with, so the GX 4.7 Recumbent is a winner among the losers. While we applaud NordicTrack’s efforts to include features that help this bike feel like a better quality machine, we can still see that the GX 4.7 lacks in quality and durability. Accordingly, we have placed the GX 4.7 Recumbent in our Second Place 2020 Best Buy slot for the $399 and Under category.
