Brief Overview
The S-TBTx is a better value than most of the other Star Trac units, just not a good one. But, StarTrac set such a standard with their more expensive options that these have a hard time measuring up.
Overall Quality
The S-TBTx is the only elliptical in StarTrac's lineup that doesn't offer an insane value proposition. Just because it doesn't meet the definition of "insanity" doesn't mean you should buy it either. If you feel you are wanting to buy a StarTrac elliptical take some deep breaths and count to 10. If that doesn't help then you may be a candidate for the Hare Krishna cult. The S-TBTx is a better value than most of the other Star Trac units, just not a good one. Star Trac has two big problems in competing this year with other ellipticals. One, they produce an older design that, while comfortable, doesn't really stand out, and two they are struggling financially which puts a lot of pressure on the consumer to see if they will be able to fulfill their warranties in the future.
Like the S-TBT offering, the S-TBTx from StarTrac is a new unit directed to the light commercial and consumer markets. If I were buying for a hotel, that is one thing, but I believe I would buy some of the more expensive options from StarTrac. They have a better feel and they will hold up better.
