Brief Overview
A good solid basic elliptical that is soon to be discontinued. The LS 8.0E is a solid elliptical that got caught up in Lance Armstrong's personal troubles. It's unfortunate too because Johnson Health Tech, who produced these ellipticals, makes a good quality machine.
Overall Quality
Johnson, the company that produces the Livestrong brand spent a lot of time developing a front-drive elliptical that has an ellipse motion that mimics a rear-drive elliptical motion. The result is a unique feel that has proven popular with consumers.
The Livestrong LS8.0E provides good value at $799. It's not easy to find quality ellipticals sold for this low, but this model comes about as close as any. The innovative front-drive design is one that users have already expressed appreciation for. The only category it really falls short in is the substandard warranty, which is a shame when you consider its durability.
Ergonomically speaking, this machine is pretty good. It's rare to find an elliptical sold at this price that offers a more natural range of motion. The adjustability is a similar story. It's not great, but at such a low cost, it's pretty impressive. 15 levels of resistance and 5 positions of manual incline give you some options to fit the exercise to your fitness levels.
As far as projected reliability is concerned, this elliptical is great. There isn't a single model sold for under $1,000 that we expect to last longer than this one. You'll have to be willing to spend at least a couple hundred dollars extra to find an elliptical that uses appreciably better quality parts.
The noise levels of this machine are about average. This is pretty common for all ellipticals, but it is a bit less common in such an inexpensive model. If quietness during operation is a major concern for you, you'll have to do your homework to find an elliptical that will do better than this one.
The warranty on the Livestrong LS8.0E is poor, even for how little it costs. Parts and in-home labor are covered for 1 year, while the frame and brake are covered for life. There aren't many warranties that are worse than this one. This is the kind of warranty that makes you think the manufacturer doesn't expect this elliptical to last for very long before requiring maintenance.

The LS8.0E has proven to be the value-priced version of the excellent LiveStong elliptical design. The only real drawback to this machine has been the manual incline adjustment.
