Belt Installation Instructions (Keys)

Installing An Keys Fitness Treadmill Belt- Can also be used for other Keys makes like Ironman, Alliance, Smooth, CardioZone, HealthTrainer, etc.

You can save yourself a great deal of time by following these instructions as opposed to the original instructions. Please contact us if you need any further help. On Keys models, put the treadmill at full incline and then UNPLUG THE TREADMILL BEFORE DOING ANY REPAIR!

Step 1

Remove the motor cover. In a later step, we will remove the plastic railing on the side of the deck that is opposite from the front roller pulley. You must have removed the motor cover in order to identify which side to remove. Most railings are decorative and are mounted to the deck with hardware hidden by the railing or use the frame in order to sandwich the railing with the deck. These are removed by sliding the railing to the back of the treadmill or lifting the railing and removing toward the side of the machine.

Step 2

Remove the rear roller end cap(s). Mark the location of the roller bolts with a permanent marker. Each belt is different and will have to be adjusted but this will give you a good starting point when you reinsert the bolts. Loosen the rear roller and remove the two adjustment bolts. After the bolts have been removed. The rear roller should now simply slide out of the walking belt

Step 3

Remove the motor hood. Using a black permanent marker, make a mark on the front roller adjustment bolt on the motor compartment side at exactly where it fits flush with the roller so you will know where to retighten it later. Remove the motor belt by pushing the belt to the side while rotating the motor and roller until the belt comes off the grooves. You then can remove the front roller bolts and remove the front roller.

Step 4

Fold up the treadmill and remove the 7/16" bolts on the underside of the treadmill. On models with 18" wide belts, DO NOT REMOVE THE TOP AND BOTTOM 7/16" BOLTS.

Step 5
If your model uses a sandwich design for the side rail, you can now lift it up and it will pry off the side of the deck. Others have to be slid off the back of the machine.
Step 6

This step is easiest if you have another person to help but it is possible with one person. Lift up the side of the deck that has been loosened and remove the old belt by simply pulling it to the side. A few models had a side hand rail that attaches to the side of the treadmill and if you have one of these, the hand rail must be removed first.

Step 7

Install the new belt just like you removed the old belt. Before proceeding, make sure that the belt is in the center of the two metal belt guides that protrude from the bottom of the deck. The guides should be angled where the sides of the belt are turned slightly upward. Sometimes these can get bent during installation so make sure they are contacting the edges of the belt or the belt will not stay centered properly. Also make sure they aren't hitting the frame because you will get additional noises and the guides can be easily bent to avoid the frame.

Step 8

Install the front roller.

Step 9

Install the side rail and the deck screws.

Step 10
Reinstall the rear roller back into position and insert the rear roller bolts. Reinstall the endcaps once the rear roller has been installed.
Step 11
Tighten the rear roller bolts to where the tension on both sides feels even and you can lift the walking belt 2-3" in the center of the belt from the deck surface.
Step 12
Start the treadmill and align the belt according to the instructions in the owner's manual or on our web site troubleshooting page under "Belt Centering Tensioning Instructions.
Step 13
Once the belt is aligned, test the belt for slippage. If the belt slips at all, tighten the rear roller adjustment bolts equally on both sides ½ turn until the slippage is gone. Do not over tighten the belt where it has less than 2" of lift from the deck surface.
Step 14
Replace the motor hood and make sure no odd noise is apparent and that the belt is tracking and tensioned properly.
